Hey all,

We're going to be going on a cruise in February (our first) and we've been reading in trip guides that there is a self-use laundromat on board the ships. Does anyone know how much the machines cost, how much soap costs, and what brands of soap are available.

I did do a couple loads of laundry during our cruise last October, but I honestly don't recall the specific answers to your questions. I think it was $3 per load for the machines and I'm pretty sure it was another $1 for the single-load box of soap from the vending machine. I seem to recall that the soap was Tide. I admit that this was not the most memorable part of our trip, so I'm pretty unsure of these answers. :)

One important point to be aware of, though, is that the laundry machines are a very rare case (possibly the only) where you need actual cash on board the ship. The machines (including the soap vending machine) are all coin operated and haven't been set up to accept the key cards for payment. If you expect to do laundry, it might be helpful to toss a roll of quarters or two into your suitcase before leaving home. If you don't want to bother with that, you can get change down at the Guest Services desk. I am not sure if you can purchase quarters there using the room charge or not, though.

I hope your room is not close to the laundry rooms onboard because peopl use them all night long! Anyway I used the onboard laudry service at the end of my cruise and was surprised at how reasonable and quick it was. You might want to consider that.

I'm pretty sure it's only $1 per load. Dryer typically takes 2 cycles, but you can put in $2 at the beginning.

It's also $1 for detergent or fabric softener. I don't know what brands, we just brought our own. I put a scoop in a snack size ziploc. And then put the small ziplocs and dryer sheets in a gallon bag.

Thanks guys, that was a lot more help than you realize. I'm glad to hear that the laundromats are pretty reasonable. hopemax, that's pretty good advice to take your own detergent. Also, JeffG thanks for the tip about the machines needing extra cash to operate. We were planning on needing cash for the ship, but it's great to have the confirmation.

FYI: on the magic repositioning cruise, we did laundry every 3-4 days... sea days are bad days for laundry esp around certain days like day 6. Their are few laundromats on the ship, and they get packed.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
