Comedian Dick Martin of Rowan and Marin's Laugh In passed away last night. For those of us old enough to remember, Laugh In was a seminal television show that helped launch many careers and unleashed numerous catch phrases in our lexicon. It was a hilarious show, live from beautiful downtown Burbank. Martin later became a sitcom director, notably for Bob Newhart among others. Rowan preceded him in death several years ago. |

Last Christmas I gave my dad the DVDs of the series and ended getting a copy for myself because I thought it was so incredibly funny...RIP Mr. Martin |

I first started watching this show when Nick-at-Nite used to air it around 1989-90. This, like SNL (or "The Best of Saturday Night" to be exact) were shown in half-hour formats. I was in the 5th grade at the time so I didn't get ANY of the jokes...I just thought it was a silly show. :) |

| Goofyernmost Mon 5/26/2008 5:25a | I remember when I was in the Air Force there were two must see TV shows in the barracks. The first was Laugh-in. I don't remember what night it was on but it seems like I recall it to be Tuesday. Not important, but, just one of my many random thoughts. The second was a Saturday morning cartoon show called "Roger Ramjet". This was after a Friday night of making fools of ourselves, no matter what condition we were in physically, we were all in the day room watching it.
I don't know anybody that didn't like Laugh-in. It was so totally irreverent and silly, that it made a great escape from the times. For a guy my age the times seemed a lot worse then they do now, but, I suspect it is all relative to your place in life. All the GI's have to watch now are reality shows and believe me they have enough reality. They need some escape. Laugh-In was that escape for us. |
