| Hista98 Mon 5/26/2008 12:02a | So I've been thinking about this for a while and with the new Monsters Inc ride opening in Tomorrowland and it's similarity to Buzz Lightyear and the close proximity to it would here be any danger of Monster putting Buzz lightyear out of buisness given the fact that Monsters is a better version of it and may get more guests. I know realisticley it's not given that buzz is still pretty new, but if it was possible would it?? what do you think?? |

I have no clue about how similar the two attractions are, but anyway I'm sure the newest one will be the most popular.
After all, Buzz replaced Pooh in popularity right? And Buzz is completely inferior in every way (it was just a side item "C" ticket in the Magic Kingdom to begin with).
So I'm sure Monsters will have long lines, and Buzz will probably chill out but it won't be dead, certainly.
Over time you can REALLY see where the popularity lies, but flavor of the month reigns supreme at TDL that's for sure. |

So, the focus for repeat rides is not to get a higher score, but to see things you didn't see before. Since these are two totally different things, I can see them appealing to different types of guests. |

You have a flashlight to "shine" on the buildings, which will reveal hidden figures and gags. I don't think anyone will even think Buzz and Monsters Inc. are related.
In the way that Pooh's Hunny Hunt is superior in every way to the Pooh rides in the U.S., Tokyo Disneyland's Monsters Inc. ride will be seen as superior to the Monsters Inc.: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue ride in California Adventure.
The US parks have statues instead of AA figures and are simple dark rides. The Tokyo park has state-of-the-art attractions. |

This point highlights the issue that OLC have with this attraction - how to market it as something very different to Buzz but the perception will be it is the same.
Hista98 - it is nothing like Buzz and when you ride it any similarity just doesn't come to mind. It is a stunning attraction from start to finish.
The other issue is capacity - Buzz is an Omnimover and can shift guests through quickly. Monsters Inc. is a six seater train - its capacity is less (similar to Toy Story Midway Mania!).
I think you only have to look at the success of Buzz at TDL to understand that that market loves something new. Buzz is the FastPass to get these days - more so than even Hunny Hunt - as the latest new adventure. The additions to Pirates have also increased ridership there by nearly 50%. The guests love something new. |
