The saddest part is that it's actually true.

With most parks, there's at least SOME exaggeration involved in ripping on them, but not HK. :(

Anyway, regarding the OP, I wonder how many regular guests even notice or care whether or not the ride system or execution is similar. Fans notice, but does anyone else really?

So many people around here talk about how similar the Test Track ride technology is to Journey to the Center of the Earth for example, but I'll bet you could ask 20 "regular" people who'd been on both and they'd have no idea.

Or how about Aquatopia vs Hunny Hunt? It's a little more obvious that they are the same ride system, but they're totally different experiences.

I think the fact that one is an Omnimover and the other has individually-dispatched trains will make the connection between the two even further distant in guests' minds.

It's true: the average person has no idea, nor does he or she care, that Journey to the Center of the Earth is almost the same ride system as Test Track.
The Japanese are obsessive, though, in a way that USA Disney fans are not. It's possible that more park goers over there know that Aquatopia and Pooh's Hunny Hunt both use track-free GPS ride systems. But they don't care about Aquatopia--the line is rarely more than 10 minutes long. We don't have to talk about how long the line for Pooh gets.

>>It's possible that more park goers over there know that Aquatopia and Pooh's Hunny Hunt both use track-free GPS ride systems.<<

My observations are that the Japanese in general are not any more knowledgeable about ride systems, back stories, history, insider info, etc. thank their US counterparts. If I were to guess, for the general Japanese populous, they may even be less knowledgeable.

A side question...
How is it that the Pooh ride system is GPS based when there is no way that the GPS satellite signal can be received by the vehicles in the building? Also, civilian GPS is accurate only down to 15 meters or so. I see both Pooh and Aquatopia being controlled in a much more accurate manner.

Both ride systems are GPS based, both have antennas spread throughout the attraction. Those in Aquatopia are plainly visible. The ones in Pooh are not.
As for the Japanese not being more savvy about details, all you have to do is look at the numerous guide books which list every single thing about every ride in excrutiating detail. There are separate guide books for rides, hotels, restaurants, etc. And there is a montly magazine devoted almost entirely to the resort, which is also filled with an insane amount of detail. Unless no one is reading the magazine and guidebooks, they can't help but be better educated about everything in the parks than people who go to Disney parks in the US.

You mean Disney Fan? No idea if you read or speak Japanese but the magazine is very light on actual details - sure tonnes of every food item or piece of merchandise but little else. Even the old Disney Resort Story was very lite on real information.

It made me laugh when I was in OLC's office last month - I was told that the only reason senior management knew anything about the storyline for Monsters Inc. Ride & Go Seek! is because they all read Tales from the Laughing Place. CMs get their information from us probably isn't the right way to do things but I'm happy! I'd bet even once the attraction opens OLC won't release information about the "east egg" character Rocky. Kodansha won't be able to disclose it either. It has been in Tales though.

There just isn't that level of information out there.
