<<That isn't the point though as it serves a completely different purpose in those two parks. It has been very successful at WDSP - but European audiences tend to be bigger on thrills and it balances the family-orientated offerings like Toon Studio, Stitch Live! and the upcoming Playhouse Disney (which is being installed). DCA was about capacity - plain and simple. They needed a big ride to get in there as quickly as possible. TOT fit the bill.>>

OK, so DCA wasn't coming close to projections yet it needed added major capacity? I understand what you're saying, but you can really pull that apart and say it proves ToT was totally kneejerk and a waste of money too.

<<TDS didn't need to have Tower. There were a host of other American Waterfront attractions that were thrown to the wolves that would have been more appealing. TOT just doesn't appeal to the local guests - even after they toned down the ride profile. There has even been talk of adding a non-thrill ride in one of the shafts to give guests the opportunity to experience all of the attraction (and the view of the park) without the drop profile. It is an incredibly impressive piece of art - the ride profile just sucks.>>

That's a shame. It looks like, most of TDS, amazing eye candy. I thought the ride profile was the same as DCA's, which is enjoyable enough.

I guess they're not identical then?

<<<I ride it at every resort I frequent, but maybe dropping it into every resort wasn't the smartest decision?>>>

<<You know I disagree with you on the duplication front - but the attraction needs to meet either a programming/menu need or a demographic need. TOT fits both for WDSP but neither for TDS. I think it would be a great addition to Adventureland at HKDL too if it was tweaked for the land. I think it would meet both criteria there too.>>

I dunno about that at all.

Especially if they go with another Twilight Zone clone. I would guess if the Chinese don't know who Cinderella or Peter Pan are, they sure don't know a 1960s AMerican sci-fi cult fave.

I personally don't ever want to see another ToT. If they want to use the technology they could always do a Toontown Tower or Geyser Mountain concept or something entirely new.

Enough of Jay's 'Send in the Clones' way of WalMarting the parks.

And as for HKDL, having seen some concepts for Pirates and Mansion, I'd much rather see these classics updated and added rather than another ToT, which I can't see how it could possibly fit, but that doesn't seem to bother WDI these days.

<<Sadly you can't "drink" in MK. Hence why I spend less time there than any other of the eleven parks. And boy do you need a drink when dealing with those crowds. :-)>>

I was referring to something along the line of Coke, Diet Coke, or Sprite but I guess we know Lee likes the good stuff;-)

As to the crowds and you spending less time at MK ... methinks you actually just have better taste than you let on and don't really enjoy the place as much as the other parks.

Nothing to be ashamed about, Lee. I promise I won't tell Jay, Al, Erin or anyone at WDI!

<<Anyhow - interesting debate. Unfortunately I won't be able to partake for the next few weeks as I'm traveling a lot with work. >>

Safe travels.

And I hope for your sake that Central Florida isn't in your plans as I think we're about to go from uncomfortable right to hellish within the next week or two!

Ugh, don't say that Spirit of 74: I arrive in Walt Disney World for 9 days starting on June 13. Hot, eh?

^^My advice: sleep in, go to the water parks (especially the new Aquatica) and spend nights in the parks.

Mid-June will still (likely ... hopefully) have relatively pleasant nights with some breezes, lower humidity etc ... but days in the parks? You'd have to pay me an awful lot to venture out with the sun :-)

Have a good time!

<<On the one hand, you're complaining about what OLC didn't do to appeal to the guest demographic, but on the other you're slamming two shows that were obviously designed to target those same folks.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't it seems.>>

When I was talking about those two shows I was talking about my personal opinion - I fully appreciate they are both very popular (even if Minnie O Minnie plays in a tiny venue).

They never were - the entire ride mechanism was developed in Osaka by a Japanese elevator company. The show is exactly the same once you sit in the conveyance though. It is just the technical attributes that let this version down - although I have no doubt they can amp it up if they needed to. TOT at TDS is a big disappointment.

Definitely not. I avoid Florida like the plague from June to September. Too many Brits on vacation. :-p

///TOT just doesn't appeal to the local guests - even after they toned down the ride profile.///

What's that all about? ToT at the Sea is very popular, no?

Hightower had the longest waits in the park all 5 days I was there in Feb. FP's sold out early as the masses raced each morning to the machines.

Did I just happen to show up at overly busy days or what? But I'm telling you that Hightower was the Sea's Pooh/Buz as to popularity and morning madness.
