Topic: A little writing help Por Favor

1	WilliamK99 Tue 5/27/2008 2:55a	OK, I am writing my term paper for an online class I am taking and am having problems with a word, I know what I am trying to say, I just don't know what word fits. Excessive deployments, and the demands of fighting a long term battle on two fronts are causing low morale in the military which __________ a troop shortage that is already having serious consequences. For the blank I am trying to find a word like amplify or having a greater effect. Does anyone have any ideas?

4	imadisneygal Tue 5/27/2008 5:13a	Just my opinion, but I think the word exacerbate is in the wrong position in the sentence. It is qualifying the shortage, and I don't think you mean that the low morale is exacerbating the shortage, but that low morale is exacerbating the consequences. Do you mean something like, "The consequences of the troop shortage and low morale are exacerbated by excessive deployments and the demands of fighting a long term battle on two fronts."?
