As some of you know I'm relocating from NorCal to Atlanta sometime soon. Right now I'm bouncing back and forth. I have no real position in California anymore but I work out of my old office when I'm here.

Anyway, we began the dreaded packing about 1 month ago. Taking it room by room. Doing the Clean Sweep approach - Keep It, Give It Away, Throw It Away. This has been torture. LOL!

First off, I do not consider myself materialistic, well I used to not consider myself materialistic. So holy cow where did all this stuff come from?

Thirty boxes JUST to pack my home office. Now mind you I have stuff from my Tribe as I'm secretary and all the stuff for my non-profit plus arts and crafts stuff. But twenty five post-it pads how did that happen? Ten packs of NBA team pencils? Four boxes of crayons? Probably forty coloring books?

Games! How many versions of Trival Pursuit are there? I have no clue but we have eight of them. Along with Adverteasing, Scruples, Life, Monopoloy, three versions of Scrabble, Sorry, Operation, ESPN sports trivia, Pictionary, Mind Teasers, Tripoloy, Cribbage, Checkers, Chess, the list goes on and on.

Don't even get me started on the CD's and DVD's...

Vases, how many vases should one household have? Or wine glasses, or placemats, or dish towels?

Purses and bags - ok I've realized I have issues. I mean how many Haight Ashbury hippie bags can one gal own?

I laugh because people say do you collect anything? I always answer just cat figurines (Oh Lisa, you silly woman. You are in such denial). And Coke things, and San Francisco Giant things, and coins, and bags, and candles, and Christmas stuff, and CD's, and DVD's, and Mary Poppins things, and Shag things, and Disney things, and books, and books, and books, and books, pens, lots and lots of pens.

My point is this has truly been a cleansing. I have vowed not to let the next house and stage of my life get so cluttered. Okay, the joke is probably on me. I look around me at all the boxes and think my god how much flipping money is all this worth? How did I spend it, why did I spend it, when did I spend it?!

Ok, just wondering if anyone else has gone through this? When I moved in the past I had only been living in apartments, I was younger, had less money and spent less time between moving. This was truly my nest.

I think I need to go to Hoarders Anonymous eventually, right now I'm still too busy packing, sorting, dragging things down the stairs, taping, cutting bubble wrap, wadding up paper, packing, sorting, packing...

As our people would say:

UGH!

DW and I lived in 22 different houses. We hope where we are now will be the last. We still have boxes to be sorted 4 1/2 years after moving in. Not many, but some.

It will probably never stop, my friend, but I wish you well in your effort.

LOL and I dare not even open the attic door where Christmas awaits me, all 37 totes and boxes.

Thank you friendofdd, I'm sure I'm in denial and it's probably hopeless. You can be the judge when you visit me in Georgia. ;>

HEY! What happened to "Sell It On Ebay"?!?!

I'm guessing hippie purses are worth something.

I don't have the time or patience for selling on Ebay Inspector. Most of my things are going to my extended family. ;>

Oh, Lisa, I so feel for you.

Packing is SUCH a horrible job. Packing for a week-end trip can reduce me to near-tears. Moving LITERALLY across the hall was an unspeakably terrible experience.

Hang in there. Realize that it's not just you: packing and moving is a crazy-making experience for ANYone. And keep in mind that you'll have a fresh start in a new place.

That's a VERY cool form of recycling!

(I just hate to see valuable things tossed to a landfill.)

[I actually want to make a longer, more meaningful post, but can't now. I'll be back!]

Inspector you know my mama - we cannot throw away soda can plastic ringie things without cutting them up to save the fish or face the wrath of the evil eyes. NOTHING in our home is going to landfill without first finding a home to someone in need or just wanting something I have and no longer need. ;>
