Topic: ATTN Doobie - And Other Vegetarians

11	sun-n-fun Wed 6/4/2008 9:23a	As someone who isn't a vegetarian (I love an occasional rare thick steak!!!) Sometimes I just don't feel like eating meat. Knowing meatless options around WDW would be handy.

13	Ursula Wed 6/4/2008 1:49p	Okay. The restaurant in Morocco has great veg dishes. Where are you staying? Will you hit all parks? Try the really huge place in The Land. I had a salad there that left me as satisfied as a steak. Le Cellier, I would avoid. When someone has a steak, you can smell it two tables away. Same vein, I would avoid Whispering Canyon, although it is my favorite spot. But, I'm sure Doobie would disagree as he really likes it there! (I couldn't eat just vegetarian style with all that good meat around!) Yeah, Doobie needs to chime in here and pronto.

And I think we'll be staying at the Pop. I don't really mind SMELLING meat... as long as I can eat still eat something delicious. LOL! ~Beth

I just want to know where to find some mouthwatering, DELICIOUS food, that fit my current eating habits while I'm at WDW. :o)*** Fair enough, Beth. :) I realize it can be frustrating (from what I've read, anyway). I recently read a great article about being a vegetarian and how annoying that can be at restaurants where they put ALL their efforts into "the main course" (the course with meat right?) and next to nothing into the veggie option, if there even is one. I wish I could find the link, but I can't. Basically the guy said to the chef (the imaginary chef) "take all of that effort and imagination you put into making THAT dish as delicious and wonderful as you can and move it over to that OTHER dish which is meatless and include the same effort and imagination into making MY meal just as delicious and wonderful". I thought that was very cool. Okay, enough hijacking. Sorry. Hope you can find some great places to eat, and enjoy your trip IPB! :)
16	Doobie Thu 6/5/2008 6:43a	I'm the same type of veggie you are (eat eggs and cheese but not fish or chicken). Here in no particular order are some of my favorites: Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge: Grains, Peas and and Veggies. Exactly what is sounds like with great spices. A huge, wonderful dish and a nice change from pasta (the normal veggie choice). The flat bread appetizers here are great also. Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club: The veggie burger is good and you get ice cream afterwards Tokyo Dining at Epcot: Just went there for the first time Friday. There Yam Sushi was really good and the Tempura was pretty good as well. Boma buffet at Animal Kingdom Lodge: My favorite of all the buffets. Lots of choices for dinner. There used to be more choices for breakfast but they've made some changes so I don't recommend it as much for that anymore. Artists Pointe at Wilderness Lodge: I like the pot stickers quite a bit and love their berry cobbler dessert. They also have a Tilimook Mac and Cheese that's a side dish on another dish that I like to get on the side. It's really yummy. Spoodles at the Boardwalk: Their flatbreads and their 3-dip appetizer and very good. Don't like the entrees as much so I just get many appetizers. Inside the parks... Brown Derby at DHS: Their tofu and noodle bowl is awesome (and really big). Maybe my favorite in-park dish. Sci Fi at DHS: Seared marinated tofu is good and I like to plug places that have tofu. Plus this place is so much fun I want you to know there is a good veggie option here. Yak and Yeti at Animal Kingdom: Love the Wok-Fried Green Beans. Usually get the Lo Mein with veggies (not on the menu but they'll make it). Both the Jasmine and Brown rice are awesome. And the Fried Won Tons for dessert. Tusker House at Animal Kingdom: A well-above average in-park buffet with plenty of veggie options. Sunshine Seasons at Epcot: The best quick service in any park. They have a couple of grab and go items I enjoy very much. They also have a Veggie Cuban sandwich that's really good but in the back of my mind I'm thinking they may have gotten rid of it. But look for it in case I'm wrong. Chefs de France at Epcot: I'm sure it has about 10,000 calories and a gallon of oil, but I really love the Gratin de macaroni - Baked Macaroni with cream and gruyere cheese. Oh yeah! And I do feel guilty after. And finally, Norway at Epcot: Not a lot of veggie but plenty of cheese and you get to meet the princesses! And there you have my suggestions. If I sat longer, I could probably think of more. But that's a good start. A finally (nothing against AllEars) - a plug for our own menu section. Nor do I want this thread to be about the good, bad and the ugly about meat eating vs. eating soy. >>> Uh...I wasn't posting in reply to YOU ~Beth, I was if I have to come out and say it, posting in direct reply to Yensid, and his whole PETA thing. Although I will most likely never become a vegetarian, I have begun eating less meat but only in an effort to loose some weight. Like you said, this isn't WE or what I like to call "The Battle Grounds." Looks like Doobie has exactly what you needed. Awsome! Good luck and plase let us know what you like and don't like when you get back!

I realize its a personal choice. I was trying to say that I didn't want anyone to use my foodie thread to try and convert or get their message across... unless that message was where to find good food. LOL! X, I agree with that article. I'm still looking for an "Oh my goodness! That was an amazing meal!" that is meatless. I've had some good meals but nothing that blows me away just yet. Doobie! Thank you so much! That is a great list and just the kind of thing I was looking for. I'm going to bookmark this page so I can print it off before the trip. And thanks for letting me know about LP's menu area. I didn't know "we" had one and I'd much rather use LPs. ;o) If anyone else would like to chime in I'm more than happy to get more ideas! I've had some good meals but nothing that blows me away just yet.*** When you come to Japan, you'll find it. I was trying to get SuperDry to chime in here but I guess he's busy, but anyway he took a group including a bunch of veggie-heads to the Teppanyaki place at the top of the Brighton just one subway stop down from Tokyo Disney...according to him they totally "got it" and asked exactly what the party could eat (no fish? no eggs? no milk? etc...) and made an incredible meal for ALL according to him... So, just a quick flight and you're all set (you're going the wrong way towards Florida though lol). j/k Doobie, by the way, great list right there! I'm sure Beth and her entourage will make good use of it!
