We are planning a Honeymoon!!!, in late September 2009 taking us to San Diego first for Sea World then the Zoo then we will of course be doing Disney for 3 or 4 days. What do you suggest as a good hotel for us to stay in San Diego close to Sea World , Moderate priced.???

Its not moderately priced but for a Honeymoon I recommend The Del.

I just had a wonderful week there (end of May) for my birthday week .. hung around the Del Coronado myself ... and I HIGHLY recommend it for a honeymoon.

For several nights .. I did some extensive searching for hotels around Sea World. (I had the same thing in mind as you) ... some of them looked rather dull and ordinary - compared to the Del Coronado.

Most places around Mission Bay/Sea World were going for close to $200 a night.

This was a consideration....
It's on the bay (Mission Bay) in view of Sea World:

But as Dshyates pointed out :D ....
at hotel.com's rate of just another 80 bucks more a night: http://tinyurl.com/3r3yjf

San Diego is quite loverly! Weather year round is nice! A bit cooler than LA/OC area.

Gas Lamp district great! - Parking is a nightmare though!
The Zoo
Sea World
Balboa Park
in fact ... I went to a Pompei exhibit at the museum there.

I skipped Old Town .. but for those who've never been ... that's a nice place to visit.

Well it's not moderate but you could check for deals (we actually couldn't afford it at the time, just walking around looking for a place to crash actually, but the guy at the desk offered us half-price because it was off-season), and I don't know exactly how close it is to Sea World, but we stayed at the Pacific Terrace Hotel and it was TO DIE FOR. Just wonderful. And the ocean view is incredible (spring for the full ocean view if you possibly can!).

A quick net check tells me that it is FAR from "moderate" though lol. Considering out half-price deal it costs about 4 times what we paid at the time (this was back in 2000 though...guess hotels cost twice as much as eight years ago! yikes.).

I'm with X-San... Though I've never stayed there (opting for the less expensive Best Western Blue Sea Lodge, which is a decent place with awesome oceanfront views, but not really honeymoon-suited) the Pacific Terrace would be FABulous for you!

Pacific Beach is a lot of fun... Great boardwalk restaurants... Great people-watching. Just a blast... One of my very favorite places!

You MUST go with an oceanview or ocean front room. There's nothing like sleeping with the sliding door open - lulled by the wonderful sounds of the ocean waves. Ahhhhhhhhhh.... :-)

Alice, truer words were never spoken.

I used to listen to my Grandma (rest her soul) talk about practicality and one of her words of advice was "a hotel is just a roof over your head, why spend more than you have to?"...

And I believed her, until I experienced an ocean view. ;)

^^ Makes you CRAVE those stays, doesn't it? The level of relaxation brought about by the ocean is incomparable - even beats a massage for me. :-)
All times are Pacific Time (US)
