I started a topic like this some time ago, around the time gasoline hit the then-shocking $3/gallon mark here in the U.S. (now known as the good ol' days).

So with gas well above $4.00 most places and expected to hit $5.00/gallon soon, I ask again, will higher gas prices impact your summer travel plans?

If so, in what ways?

(Back when I asked last time, most folks said that higher prices were painful, but it wasn't enough to call off a vacation. I am wondering if this is still the case...)

Honestly, we īre quite happy to be visiting the U.S. for a couple of months! We pay the equivalent of $6 a gallon out here... and that īs a pretty normal price for gas. The price lately is creeping up slowly, not as fast as in the states. So while we īre out there we īll actually be saving money on gas, that is if the price stops or at least slows down a bit!

The price is still not high enough to change our plans...yet,

My wife and I are discussing ways to curtail or travel. Hold off on going to the store until we can take care of two or three things at once. Have friends come our way for play dates as much as we go there way. Those types of things.

We aren't cancelling any travel (not that we travel much anyway) but we are going to be more careful about planning trips.

The only major trip we're taking is to Michigan, and we wouldn't be going if it weren't for the fact that it's one of those situations that's difficult to get out of. (Family wedding.)

I'm having a heavy debate with myself on whether or not to drive to St. Louis later this month for my dad's birthday. Even though I get great gas mileage in my '04 Camry (almost 30mpg), it's still a ten-hour drive from here.

Looking past summer, my planned trip to DL in October is looking like it's in jeopardy if airfares remain at the level they're at.

I usually drive to a lot of concerts but I won't be this summer. Gas prices aren't the entire reason, just the excuse I use.

We have a trip to DL planned in November. I *am* fearful that we will have to cancel it because of gas prices. Not just because of the extra cost of gas but it seems like the cost of everything else is rising too. I definitely am starting to worry about it.
We haven't purchased our airline tickets too and I'm nervously watching fares.

I wonder if high costs of fuel, will Disneyland be busier or slower? So many millions of people within driving distance. I'm not sure.

Hmmm, not yet. But I am certainly much more aware of the costs. I have calculated that whereas fuel cost 30 cents a mile to run my car 6 months ago, it is no 40 cents. It doesn't sound a lot, but it adds up. My kids went to their grandparents Saturday night. We went to visit and left the kids there, then I went to pick them up the next day. The fuel costs for the weekend equated to $60. Well that same journey used to be about $44. Multiply this a few times, add in the cost of groceries and services rising due to fuel costs, it's easy to see why people would cut back.

Flights have shot up recently. By as much as $400 a flight more to the US. We were considering another visit next year, but finding another $1600 over and above what a flight cost earlier this year puts it in the not worth it pile, while we would have a great time, it is now more prudent to save that money. I suspect Disneyland will do very well from this whereas WDW will suffer.

The main impact for us is that we will be driving instead of flying to SoCal/DLR this year. The best airfares that I have been able to find are 50% more than last year's prices.

It won't really affect us; we just won't take the Escalade to Hawaii this year, that's all.

Jayna and I have cut back on our day trips the bay area and the redwoods but I still do my canyon runs on the weekends. Heck, yesterday I blew through 2 tanks of gas running the roads and canyons in North San Diego county.
