Do you think that the nuked planet they found was really Earth? I ask because I don't recall seeing:

The moon
Any of the planets in the solar system.

And if it was Earth, now what do they do?

^^specifically the new "reimagined" series.

For those who do not follow the new series, the remaining humans strike a deal with the cylons and togther they find what they believe to be Earth. Unfortunately Earth lies in ruins, a radioactive wasteland. This episode is the cliffhanger.

After reading about it, I tried watching a few episodes last season. Could stay with it....

The storyline arcs are reeeaaallllyyy lllooonnnngggggg.

One thing that I do like about the new series is that unlike other series like Star Trek things aren't hunky dory for the colonials. Galactica is a beat up, obsolete battle ship. Things seem to be held together with bailing wire at times. Their technology isn't all that advanced. No lasers or other energy weapons. Most of the crew is disfunctional, including the leading cast. They are heavy drinkers who drop bowlderized f-bombs ("frak") left and right. They know their situation is hopeless, yet they hang on.

Then throw in the indisguishable from human cylons. Turns out that key members of Galactica's crew are cylon moles, who themselves do not know that they are cylons until their programming kicks in.

A very different series from the one that Lorne green starred in.

Same thing happened to me, Jim.

Try again...when I did I got hooked. Amazing show. It is rather soap opera like though, and you have to watch a good handful before you really get what's going on (or, better, watch from the beginning).

Yes, that is Earth. The producer said so. ;)

^^So now what do they do? Colonize Mars? Or wander off searching for an inhabitable world at random?

I like the series, but found I was loosing interest this season. The show draws a lot of religious parallels, especially from the Exodus stories.

Still, I wasn't suprised that they found Earth as a battle ravaged world. I kind of figured that in order to avoid a 'Galactica 1980' scenario they would have to find nothing here. The series could have, really, ended at that point, but there are still 10 more episodes to be shown in early 2009. I figure there will be another set of battles between the evil Cylons, who try to bring the 'good' Cylons back to their view points, and the Colonials. The series will, probably, end with either hope that there are still remanents of the Earth population out in the stars, or that the Colonials are the remanents.

My interest has been rekindled, so I'll watch the remaining shows, when they air.

Really hoping that that battle ravaged Earth is from circa 11,000 BC or something...a reason to continue the "all this has happened before" idea.
