This is simply horrible. It goes way beyond simply "un-American" for me at this point.

First and foremost, "The detainees were never charged with crimes."

Just throwing that out for the record.

The doctors' group said in a 121-page report that it uncovered medical evidence of torture, including beatings, electric shock, sleep deprivation, sexual humiliation, sodomy and scores of other abuses.

The report is prefaced by retired U.S. Major Gen. Antonio Taguba, who led the Army's investigation into the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal in 2003.

"There is no longer any doubt that the current administration committed war crimes," Taguba states. "The only question is whether those who ordered torture will be held to account."

Oh, and by the way, they were held for 1-3 years without charge and then RELEASED.

So much for keeping us safe from the monsters, I guess.

Wow. That's quite something for a career US military official to say.

Are we listening?

No mystery there - it was Don Rumsfeld. There were the same systematic abuses in abu ghraib and guantanamo. As to whether he'll be held to account, I expect this administrations will probably give him a medal.

I couldn't even watch that full youtube video. It just disgusts me to even hear him talk, and to justify what they are doing as protecting the American people because of the 9/11 attacks.
How long will every war we start and every person we torture be done under the guise of revenge for 9/11????

Disgusting.......

"There is no longer any doubt that the current administration committed war crimes"

Sure there's doubt. If they have any actual evidence, why don't they release it? From the CNN report, it sounds like all they got is a couple of guys claiming they were tortured.

And how come they were freed? I thought we've been told that the Bush administration is grabbing innocent people and holding them forever, with no access to lawyers and no due process. If so, how did these guys mangage to get free?

Um...falsely arrested in the first place, perhaps?

***I thought we've been told that the Bush administration is grabbing innocent people and holding them forever***

Show me exactly where someone said "innocent people".

Anywhere on LP. In the press. On blogs.

Show me just one example.

<Um...falsely arrested in the first place, perhaps?>

If we're willing to hold them without due process forever, why do we care if they were "falsely arrested"? By the way, they weren't arrested, they were captured on the battlefield.

<Show me exactly where someone said "innocent people".>

From post no. 1 of the topic "Supreme Court Ruling on Gitmo Detainees" by ecdc: "Some of the people detained at Gitmo for years have been proven to be innocent."
