Actually the signage in front of the DHS version of Toy Story Mania! says "Toy Story Midway Mania!", and uses Scrabble Tiles to spell out the word Midway.

As for saving Money, Disney had to digitally alter the DCA version of its sign for the commercial so it read "Toy Story Mania!"

It has NOTHING to do with saving money, but the fact that Corporate wants the ride to be called and advertised as "Toy Story Mania!" and has spent a lot of money on special signs and other material, such as all the special Toy Story Mania! items that were used in the main Media Events for the opening of the attraction on both coasts.

And that is why you will see "Toy Story Mania!" in commercials, billboards, company websites and associated material.

What Disney wants the ride to be called is clear....

Once all the signage outside the Park disappears, Guests will only have the Guide Map and the official marquee as reference to the title Toy Story Midway Mania. The only place I can think of right off hand where it will still be labled as Toy Story Mania is on the Disney website.

If corporate wanted to officially call it Toy Story Mania, then why is the word Midway still in the marquee title?? If they were so willing to modify the commercial and all the advertising, why couldn't they have gone further and omit the word Midway from the marquee, and all the in-park maps and signs?

Also, there is even merchandise with the whole title "Toy Story Midway Mania". How did that get past corporate??

If corporate wants everyone to call it Toy Story Mania, then they haven't been doing a good of a job. Not only are the signage at both Disney's California Adventure and Disney's Hollywood Studios displaying Toy Story Midway Mania , but Quotes that I have heard from people asking about the ride are...

"Is this the new Toy Story ride?"
"Is this line for mania?"
"Toy Story Midway Mania.. is it a ride or a show?"
"Where does the line begin for toy story mania?"
"Is this the new Buzz and Woody ride?"

Point is, people are already calling it different names.

What I don't understand is why when someone calls it Toy Story Midway Mania, they get singled out and "corrected"

What do the T-shirts say on them?

Whatever they say, I'm stickin' with the attraction marquee and the talking potato.

Marketing can stuff it. (ROFLMAO! Get it? "Stuff it"... They should sell stuffed, talking, baked potatoes at that Mexican turkey leg place across the street! ;-)

Exactly. When did anyone start favoring Marketing over WDI? That's just wrong.

"Actually the signage in front of the DHS version of Toy Story Mania! says "Toy Story Midway Mania!", and uses Scrabble Tiles to spell out the word Midway."

I know what it says. Disney world gave in to the midway and decided to call theirs midway as well. At first it was to be called toy story mania, but after giving disneyland such a hassle about giving up their midway title and disneyland not giving in, they decided to cave in themsevles and use toy story midway mania themselves.

So "Some" shirts have it one way, and "Some" shirts have another...

ALL my media stuff has "Toy Story Mania!", not just some... ;)

Wow, I can't believe I read 30 posts of people arguing over a name NO ONE will care about in a year's time ;).

And really, signage, web sites, etc, end of the day people call it whatever they want as others have said. And most importantly, when has a name of a ride made someone decide to ride it or not?? I don't get Disney's beef with all of this, but no one cares, honestly. My mother rode it twice and both times called it 'Toy Story ride' lol.

Thanks lesmisfan... Sounds like the schizo Marketing behavior extends to apparel as well. *LOL* ;-)

WD, I don't think any of us are boycotting or planning to... *LOL* And I know what you mean about folks abbreviating the name anyway. Mr. Alice and I (and thousands of others, I'm sure) break other attractions down, too, and even further than Marketing has with TSMM... for example:

Space
Buzz
Indy
Alice
Snow
small world
Splash
Pirates
Soarin'
Screamin'

...And more.

When it comes down to it, we'll probably call it "Toy Story" or even just "Mania" between ourselves.

However, that doesn't mean the short version belongs on merchandise or print collateral. And it doesn't change my feelings that Marketing's ego is the only thing standing in the way of consistency with the TSMM name.

"Toy Story Mania" sounds absolutely incomplete to me, especially considering the marquee.

And it's fun to call them out on it. Wheeeeee! ;-)

When I was a kid, we tended to call Adventure Thru Inner Space "Monsanto." As in "Let's go on Monsanto." Just because it was shorter.

What was the actual name of the attraction, though? "Adventure Thru Inner Space." How did we know? It was on the sign, right there at the attraction.
