This topic has probably been covered before here. But, have you ever noticed the various smells around Disneyland? POC and the Haunted Mansion both have distinctive scents that I can recall even as a child.
Disney parks supposedly employ a machine called the Smellitzer at certain places. I'm wondering if it is used on these rides. I know I can't walk past the Candy Palace without stopping in for a bite as the scent is intoxicatingly delicious. There was a discussion about this on the Hidden Mickeys web site as well.

Yep, we did this one about a year ago. POTC seemed to be the overall favorite : )

As for the smellitzer -- it was used in EPCOT Center's 'Horizons' attraction [when passing a grove of orange trees, it did smell like oranges]

Also in 'Spaceship Earth' -- the burning of Rome scene had the smell of smoke...

The first incarnation of the 'Imagination' pavilion employed the smell of purfume --

'A Bug's Life' uses the stinky smell for the stink bug...

As for 'Pirates' and 'Haunted Mansion' -- I think they just smell like that! :)

One of my favorite smells was the flower bed outside of Tomorrowland. It was always filled with marigolds, and gave off a wonderful fragrance.

Just the other day, I bought some marigolds for my backyard -- took a whiff and thought 'Hey, that smells like Disneyland.'

I've written this before, but as a kid standing on Main Street before rope drop, the smell of wet asphalt, coffee, and cigarette smoke was a wonderful anticipatory scent. We were in Disneyland!

I figured this subject had been covered before. Forgive...I'm a newbee.
Jim, You're probably right. I'm sure the pirates are a bit musty after all these years. lol
Funny thing, I had a Read-a-long book and record of the Haunted Mansion as a kid and (I promise I don't go around smelling everything.) it smelled just like the ride.

Walter Elias, you haven't "met" crazycroc yet, have you? I'm sure you'll bump into him from time to time in LP, and smells are right up there on the top of his list. (Welcome aboard, by the way. Pleased to make your acquaintance.)

Walter Elias, no worries, there's nothing to forgive. I only added that link just in case you or anyone else wanted to see what had been said previously. Sometimes it's nice to see some of the old topics revived and given a fresh perspective.

Welcome to LP!!!! it's really good to have you with us and I hope you come to love it here as much as I do. It's a wonderful community and very quickly becomes "family".

STiL, twin sis, what am I going to do with you and what will poor Walter think of us??? I'm postin the thread you were referring to. I guess it *could* be one of the smells of DL.
