Topic: Airline captain upset about his hat delays flight

<<< ... another passenger questioned the crew and that passenger told him the incident stemmed from crewmembers from another United flight observing the pilot wearing his hat. United's pilots union has been urging pilots to remove their hats when they "are likely to be viewed by management," as a form of protest, according to a notice on ALPA's website.

"In the concourse, on the jetway, wherever. Show solidarity with your fellow pilots, show management our solidarity. Don't wear your hat," it says. >>>

Actually, based only on the limited information in the article, the situation seems to speak more toward the silliness about union behavior than the captain involved. What could have been said by the other union members to this captain that got him so upset, and how could the wearing of a hat cause such things to be said?

<<< In a statement dated Jan. 15, the union instructed members to adopt the practice because "now is the time to show management that this pilot group is serious about regaining what was stripped from us during bankruptcy." >>>

If memory serves, prior to the bankruptcy, United Airlines was proud to be an employee-owned airline. That is, the "management" that lead the airline to the latest bankruptcy and resulted in canceled pensions and reduced pay was appointed by the union members themselves, since they were collectively the majority owners of the airline.

I suppose I'd prefer my pilot be honest in such a situation.

On the other hand, I prefer to delude myself into hoping that my pilot wouldn't be the kind of person who could get worked up into a frenzy such that he/she can't fly the plane!

Yikes.

Well, anyway...hats off (I guess lol).
