Yikes. Guess I'd better slim down! lol.

I checked with some friends who confirmed this IS a nationwide phenomenon and all companies ARE forcing employees to submit to regular weight and measurement checks. Wow.

I don't think I will be working in Japan anytime soon. The lowest waist size I have had as an adult is 38.

That brings up a good point - do they have different norms for foreigners? I would think so, as the "average" western foreigner is larger than the average Japanese, even setting aside the overweight issue.

I saw this the other day. Our national diabetes association (or whatever it is) her in the U.S. says the maximum healthy waist size for men is like 38 inches, but over there it was, what, 33.5? And for women here in the U.S. it's smaller than for Japanese women (which surprised me a lot).
So that's a good point, are they measuring non-natives who live there, and if so, do they have a different max size?
All times are Pacific Time (US)
