Topic: Need advice....

1	kari12177 Mon 6/23/2008 6:42a	Right now the weather struck a lot of fires around where I live. The wind ble w smoke every where and I woke up to the smell in the house. Now it reeks in here. Does anyone know how to get the smoke smell out, its driving me crazy.
2	smedley Mon 6/23/2008 7:05a	I am thinking the smoke smell is still outside so you can't just open a window?? Is it in the furniture/carpets?? I know a friend of mine who had the same problem had it suggested that she put down baking soda as it absorbs the smells, she put it down, left it for a couple hours, then vacuumed it up, I also heard wiping worksurfaces with vinegar helps. Good luck with it, and stay safe with all those fires around!!

5	LuLu Mon 6/23/2008 8:03a	Set out shallow bowls of vinegar. It's amazing - got rid of skunk smell after my dog tousled with a skunk. It's easy as pie, no vacuuming or wiping necessary. Are the candles and incense helping? Seems like maybe it would just mask the smell. Good luck and stay safe! I hate fire season...

7	kari12177 Mon 6/23/2008 8:15a	actually they are helping a little, each room smells of vanilla, pine and coconut. I know, weird, but it works so far and all my yankee candles are different scents

9	kari12177 Tue 6/24/2008 10:23a	The candes only help if they are burning 24/7. The moment I put them out, you can smell the smoke again. I might try inscence again. Vinegar didnt help. Maybe I should bake something.....
10	Mrs ElderP Tue 6/24/2008 1:11p	The most recent time we had fires we evacuated! The time before that when So Cal was on fire we were in no danger, but the smoke over San Bernardino was so bad we left to go visit my parents a couple hundred miles away. Good look getting that smoke smell out. And, if you have to evacuate or have any smoke or heat related damage don't hesistate to call who ever has your home owners policy (if you are paying a mortgage). All State was really great.
