The simplistic figures and effects in Small World can't be compared with the Audio-Animatronic figures and complex special effects required for a Haunted Mansion. There's not a single thing in Small World that I can think of off the top of my head as complex as the new floating Madame Leota head in Walt Disney World with it's remarkable, bright, internal projection.

I imagine all the AA's and efects are pre built back at WDI and are just set up when the time calls for it. One of the reasons some attractions take longer to build is down to finance, and in the case of TDL's new Monster Inc attraction timing. What ever big attractions this park is planning it needs something big to attract the crowds in 2010 when Ocean Park debuts its very aggresive expansion plans.

ORDDU: Are you certain about the announcement of It's a Small World, Malin, duckling? It seems to your cauldron girls that it was closer to two years after Small World was announced to the time of its completion.

ORWEN: I remember there were about 3 different 'official announcements' for Small World. Each time they made it seem like it was being announced for the 'first' time. It was so funny for them to do that--like as if they weren't sure what was gonna' happen.

ORGOCH: They STILL ain't sure what's gonna' happen!! Them goomers over there only knows how ta tease!!

ORDDU: So, depending on which announcement date you may have first heard about the addition of It's a Small world, it makes all the differencce as to how long you would judge that it took them to build it.

It takes years to build an attraction, get the ride system built and functioning properly, get all the AAs built and into position, and then get everything properly synched and work out all the kinks.

When we were there last week we noticed the construction area and asked a CM about it - we thought it might be POTC. He said that although nothing was confirmed, the rumour was HM. That would be a very welcome addition to the park as far as I'm concerned!

Jim Hill has an article up today on the Adventurers Club at Pleasure Island in which he claims props from this club may be on the way over to Hong Kong Disneyland for use in the parks soon to be annouced Haunted Mansion attraction.

Jim Hill: Which (given that this attraction will be located in the Adventureland portion of that theme park) will borrow a page from Tokyo DisneySea's Tower of Terror and feature a Great White Hunter who brings a cursed artifact home from the jungle.
