Hong Kong Disneyland
Topic: Idea for Adventureland

I can't help but notice how much inspiration for Hong Kong Disneyland's Adventureland comes direct from Disney's Animal Kingdom. And just like Disney's Animal Kingdom the place is huge and beautiful, but lacks many attractions. Seeing that Adventureland does have a similar look and includes the Lion King Show I was wondering why WDI didn't try and take more ideas from this park and fit it into Adventureland. How amazing would it be to get a version of Expedition Everest or some Animal exhibits, like Tigers and Gorrilla's and other such animals. Having Animal exhibits would also be a huge blow to main rival Ocean Park. What do you think!

ORDDU: My sisters and I were actually thinking the same thing, Malin, dear. The only reason they MIGHT not follow through with any plans for real, live animal exhibits, though, is because it would make the Jungle Cruise seem a bit un-necessary or cheesy by comparison.

Malin, Disney did intend originally for more of DAK to wind up in Adventureland.

There was to be a roller coaster with onboard sound that would have included many of the AA scenes from DAK's CTX ride. Just beyond that there was supposed to be a recreation of the Boneyard play area from Dinoland as well as a dino-themed shop (I believe dining as well, but not certain).

Now, they also planned to have Tough To Be a Bug at HKDL, but that was supposed to go in the budget-axed Frontierland (I have no idea why there!)

Tough To Be A Bug would of been a hit in Hong Kong, if Mickey's Philarmagic is anything to go by, shame it got cut.

Not sure if the Dino concept would of worked here as in Animal Kingdom everything is more spaced out.

My vision would be to add Expedition Everest and nestle it in with the mountain scenary. It would fit the theme well and would relate more to the critics who claim HKDL should have more attractions based on a Chinese theme.

The next part of my plan would be to introduce Maharajah Jungle Trek where guest can encounter Tigers and other such animals found in the Asia region.

Later I would add another area like Pangani Forest Exploration Trail.

<<< How amazing would it be to get ... some Animal exhibits, like Tigers and Gorrilla's and other such animals. Having Animal exhibits would also be a huge blow to main rival Ocean Park. What do you think! >>>

I think this would be a mistake. The park already has enough identity problems. By adding animals, this would only serve to confuse potential visitors into thinking it was an animal park, and offering nothing above and beyond what Ocean Park does.

Along similar lines, I think it's a good thing that TDS ended up with no live animals in the park - having animals would really distort the notion of what the park is trying to accomplish.

At WDW, I think that a DAK is totally appropriate. Having a park whose focus is live animals is a fine thing to do. Even so, consider how the "Natazu" issue is still a problem for DAK. Imagine what it would be to the identity of a park that wasn't focused on live animals, but had a contingent of them, especially as an expansion item that would be promoted?

Ocean Park has a higher attendance number than Hong Kong Disneyland if we are to believe the report from TEA/ERA so the combination of theme park attractions and animal exhibits seems to be a winner with the local population. Having one or two animal trails would help attendance and create a nicer atsmophere to this side of the park. By 2010 Ocean Park is going to be twice the size it is now and that has to concern some people surely.

I actually think Animal Kingdom has become guilty of becoming just another theme park anyway, with Animals having a second role to fill along side attractions and shows.

Animals will never be added to HKDL nor should they. They have no place at an MK style park.

And they cost a tremendous amount of money to acquire to care for and to display.

It's much easier to simply add real attractions.

As to this point:

<<I actually think Animal Kingdom has become guilty of becoming just another theme park anyway, with Animals having a second role to fill along side attractions and shows. >>

I totally disagree. I can see where people might get this idea with the recent additions of Nemo and Everest. But a visit to DAK is what one makes of it. If one is only interested in riding rides, I can see that person getting through the park in three hours even with Everest.

The place is so much more .. and then some.

Oh ... just to clarify. I am not implying animals aren't real attractions as it might read above.

Anyone who goes to DAK knows some of its best attractions are animal-intensive.

What I meant was traditional MK-style attractions not involving critters.

I am going to be faceacious and add, I would be upset if the MK parks ever got rid of the horse drawn streetcars.

^^I can't tell you the last time I've actually seen them in FLA ... it's been years ... many years. I think they likely have them out maybe two hours a day in the mornings while I'm sound asleep.

Oh, and they don't even have any in HK anyway.
