Hey Everyone,

I'm taking my daughter to Columbus for a wedding in August, then driving up to Cedar Point (the wife and son are staying home). We're going to stay at the Lighthouse suites for 2 nights, and do the park. As my daughter loves roller coasters, I think she'll really love the park, but how does it compare to a Disney park, or for that matter, Hershey Park? I hear Cedar Point has been chosen as a 'best park' 6 years in a row.
We're only going to be there a Sunday evening and all day Monday (we have to drive back to Columbus for the plane home). Is that enough time, or will we have to pick and choose?
Thanks.

Cedar point is more like Hershey Park than it is Disney. They don't do a lot of themeing, but the rides they have are fantastic. It has the most attractions of any park, anywhere. The park also has a tendency to be pretty crowded. So you may have to pick and chose. The good thing is that by staying at a CP resort you will get early entry on Mon. This will be handy to take on Top Thrill Dragster, which is a 17 sec. coaster that hits 127mph twice, and peaks out at 425' in the sky.
As far as coasters there are no parks that can match it. My favorite coaster ever in Millinium Force. 310' tall, 93mph. It does everything a coaster is suposed to do better than any other coaster I have ridden.
I love CP and I hope to make it up there this summer.
Its not Disney, and not even trying to be. They are CP, and make no apologies for it.

Yep, pretty much what dshyates said. It is 'roller coaster heaven' for some coaster fans, and they do have a great selection to choose from. It's definitely NOT like Disney. It's more of a thrill ride lovers paradise, though. Family rides are there, but fewer and far between.

As for Top Thrill Dragster, I believe that I read that it's NOT part of the early entry rides offered any more. Maverick (a really incredible ride, by the way) replaced it, I believe. Still, you will want to hit the most popular rides first - Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, Millennium Force, and Raptor. Most of the other rides will have a wait, but their lines won't be as long as these other four. Magnum XL-200 is another great coaster, but, the lines for it aren't as long as they used to be.

Have fun, just expect LONG lines without a 'fast pass'.

Sorry, I meant to say that CP doesn't even offer a 'fast pass'. They used to a few years ago, but it was discontinued.

On the early entry, they usually have 2 majors open. Last summer it was either Mavrick and Top Thrill or Mavrick and Millinium. You may want to find out for sure while in the park Sun. and plan accordingly. If it is not available for early entry you could hit .one of the open coasters a couple of times and then queue up for Top Thrill about 15 mins. prior to its opening. Even if its not open for early entry you can use your access to the line to schooch youself to the front of the line before the masses descend at park opening.

Thanks for the info. I figured it would be closer to Hershey in style.

Any idea if the park stays crowded after dark? We won't get into CP unil 5 on Sunday, but we'll have all day on Monday.

I'm an early riser, but I'm going to have to drag my daughter out of bed if I want to get her going before 10 (too much like her mother).

CP is usually crowded both day and night. Their 'Twilight Admission' after 5:00pm is quite popular. Since the rides are more 'teenage' oriented, the park stays fairly crowded until closing. Of course, weekdays might be less so than weekends, and Sunday evenings less crowded than Friday or Saturday evenings. Still, plan on large crowds throughout the day.

I went to Cedar Point a few years ago because friends of mine rave about it. We drove from the NYC area, which is a lengthy drive just to see this park.

I guess I picked the wrong day, because it was 100 degrees that day, not exagerating. I thought the park was very nice, but because of the heat my wife and I found out the hard way that there are very little places that are air-conditioned in the park. Also, the food choices are very slim. My wife isn't too picky, but she couldn't find a thing to eat in the park of her liking.

I thought the park was nice, definitely a lot of rides, and I liked their 'frontier town' feel on the western side.

The park is on a peninsula in Lake Erie, which was cool cause it gave awesome views from Millenium Force and other coasters.

It was just so darn hot that day that we ended up taking about 2 hours to go to the adjacent beach by The Breakers, and soaked in the lake for a while.

I'm a Hersheypark regular, and I prefer Hershey. My wife won't go back to Cedar.

Its odd you would mention the heat, because from my experience CP is the coldest widyest park I have ever been to. A 100 day on the north shore is pretty rare.
