<< My impression is that the parks are less busy than usual this summer.>>

You know, my thoughts were the same the two Saturdays I went. I just KNEW it was going to be busy with it being summer, Saturday and a new attraction, I thought it would be slammed and both times we didn't even get there until the afternoon. But, no, it was very, very reasonable. Almost too reasonable. Nothing in the parks on both Saturdays were over an hour except Nemo, Splash, TSMM obviously and Indy occasionally, but everything was averaged about 30-45 mins. It was so strange to me, I even commented on the similar thread like this one (BEFORE it fell into the Disney Geek fest of what 'Toy Story _______' is really named ;).

Anyway, maybe its just the beginning of the summer, but I was there last summer for 3 days and DL was pretty crazy with Nemo opening about a month ago and it being July. I guess it will pick up but I wasn't complaining ;).

Or you know, maybe the heightened gas prices really ARE having an effect with everything and people are just driving places a lot less. I saw a news article that said Americans drove 1 BILLION miles less just through April and since Disney Resort isn't exactly mass transit freindly (getting there anyway), it could be suffering like many spots are now.

It's gas prices and the heat, I would think.

The lines are longest first thing in the morning, then drop off to a reasonable wait.

Also, Buzz still keeps fairly long lines, except when the park itself is not crowded.

(And for what it's worth, I believe that a year from now everyone will be calling Toy Story Midway Mania the Toy Story ride.)

Don't forget, July 4th, 5th and 6th were blocked out for all AP holders except Premiums. There are a LOT of Deluxe AP holders out there...

Heck, Sunday evening, basically walked onto the Matterhorn, last time I did that was last September on a weekday after Labor Day.. amazing...

http://micechat.com/forums/blo...hp?b=487

If you look at the left side of the Matterhorn photo, you will see NOBODY in the outside queue, and the majority of the inside queue (past the turnstiles) was not being used.

Pirates was a walk-on.

Did Toy Story Mania! twice, about a 20 minute wait, some of the main queue area was not being used (part of the indoor queue, due to the heat issues), but also some of the outer queue, which I was glad to see, as that was the area that folks tried to jump into the queue without waiting....

so, perhaps a mix of slow down by joe tourist, and it shows how much DL is carried by cheap APs. Anyone on in favour of increasing the cost of APs? I think it could make DL an even better experience.

So, is it not advisable to go to this first thing? If people are waiting for the rope to drop, so 1/2 hour already, it sounds like that could be among the longest wait times of the day...

And a secondary question, regarding post 13, is it really hot at DL? Where I live, I've been thinking this is the best July weather I remember. Other than that heat wave 3 weeks ago, the weather's been perfect. (highs about 85)

As far as AP prices - they're offering $99 3-day parkhoppers to get more folks into the parks, how would raising AP prices help attendance? I bet APers are going less often due to gas prices too.

Nope, I am not suggesting raising attendance, but in fact lowering it, but getting higher revenues. For those that pay full price, they get a more managable environment. For those that have APs, they pay a little more, and it is still great value.

APs are really a bargain.

I was at DL over the July 4th weekend and found Friday to be warm, but manageable, Saturday was hot and humid, which made it uncomfortable, so we did a lot of indoor attractions... But it did cool down quite nicely around 6-7 at night... And Sunday was very nice, around the mid 80's...

Of course, maybe it felt nice since yesterday it was 104 here where I live... LOL!

APs pay a little more each year. That's the way it goes. If there were a steep increase I think there'd be a big backlash, especially considering the economy right now.

I'm not sure lowering attendance is a good idea (Disney certainly doesn't seem to think so). Lowered attendance would definitely mean staff cuts. Sure, everyone wants low crowds and high staffing and maintenance with long hours, but how likely is that to happen?

Thanks Icey - mid-80s to me is great for summer, and I don't think that would keep anyone away from DL.
