And that Shanghai and Disney will be holding of from annoucing this project until after the Summer's Olympics have finished in Beijing. This being Jim Hill I wouldn't take the article to seriously as his news isn't that reliable at times, but he is going on record to say its finally a done deal.

| barboy Sat 7/19/2008 2:01p | please, please, PLEASE!!! no more MK/Dl or studios style parks ever again. We have 5 and 2.5 respectively already and that is enough in this world.
more EPCOT's, Disney Sea's, Animal Kingdoms--- in other words unique offerings.
And if they had a clue they would look to build something this time around more readily grasped and appreciated by Chinese since HKDL is, proportionately, a Disney park ghost town. |

I think this is exactly the point with the rumors of it being Pixar-heavy. Remember the story about Iger being at HKDL on Opening Day and seeing the Chinese children all respond wildly to the Pixar characters in the parade but kind of sit there non-plussed when the traditional Disney characters went by? |

| The Goddess Mara Sat 7/19/2008 3:26p | It's not going to be like any Magic Kingdom we've ever seen, so I think "different" is already in the game plan.
Besides, at the size being planned, it should be a full park upon opening and definitely worth a trip, though going back to Shanghai is not something I particularly look forward to!
Shanghai has an enormous population--it's one of the largest cities I've ever seen. You can drive for HOURS and still not get from one end to the other. It shouldn't have the attendance problems Hong Kong Disneyland has. |

| Witches of Morva Sat 7/19/2008 3:26p | ORWEN: I thought Mr. Iger was just saying there hadn't been any RECENT Disney characters that stood out much; not that the classics ones, such as Mickey Mouse, Snow White or Winnie the Pooh aren't still well known and popular. |

Yes, I would think that the western capitalistic tsunami that crashed into China's seaboard must have doposited some Nemo's, Woodies and cars.
Since middle-aged and elder Chinese grew up isolated from traditional Disney culture they would not know White Rabbit from Br'er Rabbit.

| Malin Tue 7/22/2008 5:01a | It makes me think the next Pixar film should be based on some sort of Chinese story that the local fanbase could relate too, after all Dreamworks has Kung Fu Panda. |
