<<Saturday at Irish Fest here in Milwaukee I saw the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. They're a Scottish band that plays instrumental versions of current songs with drums, guitars, keyboard, horns and bagpipes. They were awesome.>>

This sounds fantastic ! I am going to have to look these guys up.

We saw Brian Wilson last night ar the Cerritos Center For The Performing Arts. We sat in a row directly in front of his wife and family, and as a consequence had a rather interesting time. The show was great, too.

My friend won VIP tickets to this so we got a few acoustic performances and free food in the bar area.

Wow, so I haven't been in this thread since 7/29/11... suffice to say I've been to a LOT of shows since then - including folks like Aretha, Erasure, Stevie Wonder, and TONS others.

But, in response to something Damon asked after my last post here ("Are they similar to Explosions in the Sky? Because I like them a lot but then again they provided a lot of the music for Friday Night Lights and anything associated with that movie or show is good in my book."), yeah, they're kind of similar. And, good thing I didn't diss Explosions in the Sky TOO bad when I posted on FB that I had seen them (prior to July, I think) - I didn't really enjoy the complete inabiity to distinguish the end of one song and beginning of another, but the bass player (who I praised in my review) turns out to be the brother-in-law of a guy I've known since 1st grade! Small world!

Now, back on topic: last show I saw was awesome incarnate:

Ray Price (who still sounds just as great as he did back before I was born!)
Folk Uke (HILARIOUS trio that's two of Willie's kids and one other girl - try looking up s*** makes the flowers grow on You Tube)
Lukas Nelson (who's now 20 and who I first saw onstage when he was about 12) - he sounds a LOT like his Daddy when he sings!
Willie Nelson - who had Jamey Johnson and Billy Gibbons join him onstage - and they did a couple of Jamey's songs, but not any ZZTop
The Gourds - who had Dennis Quaid join them for their first 13 minute song/medley - and OMG they were SO MUCH FUN! Super energetic and a great "first concert of 2012" since they didn't get onstage until about 1 am on the 1st. :)

This was Willie's New year's Eve show here in Austin that was broadcast live on SiriusXM on Willie's station. That made it a bit more fun, I think. :)

Next "concert" for us right now is Rodney Carrington on the 20th...but if David Grissom plays at the Saxon Pub this coming Tuesday for happy hour, I'll try to make it... haven't seen him since I got his newest CD and still need to get it signed. I just hate going to a happy hour show solo... so need to see if I can find someone to go with me.

I went to see the Smashing Pumpkins the other night. Really good show.
