I have seen the Vitriol increase lately, with certain people calling others users morons, etc.

Is this against the rules, i.e. No personal attacks, even though it is in World Events.

While I have not seen these exact words in Community Standards here at LP, a rule at many websites is "Attack the Message, not the messenger".

IMHO, I think world events is very good, and should have items from all spectrum's of life, and that folks should discuss the issues.

But lately, it has just seemed way too personal, and I have noticed a lot of violations of community standards, such as..

6. NO FIGHTING: Please be polite to all posters on the Discussion Boards. Mean spirited messages and exchanges will be deleted at the administrators' discretion. We also ask that you don't unnecessarily antagonize others, and don't represent yourself as another person. Also, do not post any material that is defamatory, infringing, obscene, violates the legal rights of others. And remember, you can be held legally liable for what you write.

and...

7. NO PERSONAL ATTACKS: Personal attacks against anyone - other posters, public figures, names in the news - anyone, is not allowed on LaughingPlace.com

But once again, IMHO, we shouldn't allow LP members to call other LP members names just because they don't have the exact same political, religious and other type of beliefs.

And folks, please, let do not use specific names or comments from World Events in this thread.

This thread is asking for a clarification in the LP Community Standards and should not be used to "call out" any individual. If you have problems with an individual, take the matter private with the LP staff.

In general, World Events is not moderated to anywhere near the same level as other sections. As I've said before, I'd prefer not to have a World Events at all, but if we didn't, topics like those would end up in Community. So World Events was created as a place, mainly, to protect the other sections. And while posts there are potentially subject to the same rules, ultimately, you can expect much less moderation there which is why we give the warning in the section description.

Doobie.
