This version is heavily influenced by the original Mary Blair designs and will be closely modelled on the DL version (ie. not a flooded show building).
No other attractions have yet been green-lighted but there is traction within WDI and WDP&R to "fix" the park from an attraction standpoint. |

There are some neat effects in DL to make it look like there is water throughout the attraction, but needing to do this really can't compare with real water. |

Although there are neat tricks in the DL version to make it look like there is a lot more water (the layers of glass in the African room and the faux light reflection in the South American room), they just can't compare to the real thing. The only reason that they did that in DL was because they hadn't invented the technology to flood the whole building yet. However in HKDL, they are just doing it to be cheap. I fully expect them to include much more impressive water tricks throughout the entire ride (like the flood scene from Pooh) that use modern technology that wasn't available in the 1960's. Disney as a company and as a builder has come a long way since the original small world was built and I really hope that this version will reflect that. Sadly, I think that I am probably too optimistic. |

I've heard a rumor that PoC has been scaled down and may even not be using the traditional boats ... any truth, all-knowing one?

Maintainance crews always seem to leave ugly scuff marks, dirt, paint chips, you name it.
Over at DL's ... not only is the whole trough sides butt ugly with things none of us are "suppose to" see ... but they can't keep from their equipment and dirty construction shoes from making worse.
The flooded showbuilding eliminates all that.
They're creating more problems that they could so easily avoid.
But I have no doubt they are trying to save money! |

| oc_dean Sat 11/25/2006 12:24a | Another thing that really gets on my nerves at DL's version .... many corners and seems where the velvet tarps are supposed to create a "seemless" effect looks almost like shoddy elementary school work.
It's been so long since I've been to WDW's .. but by the time they got around to building theirs (1971) .. It seems that leap of 5 years was all the difference in the world with the building and "show" materials used to create something not quite as tacky as DL's is ... compared to WDW's ... and pics I've seen of DLP's and TDL's.
I really wish that some day DL's could be completely gutted .. and start all over again. |
