| dlport Fri 10/5/2001 5:20p | Great coverage of the event and the Mansion itself. Another example of what we have all come to expect from Laughingplace.com.
My only issue would be the apparent use of flash photography in some of the pictures. Many appear to be digital images, which I applaud you for taking because they require no flash. But a few appear to have been taken with a flash, and IF that is true there is simply no excuse for interfering with the enjoyment of the other guests.
Overall, I thought the coverage was great, and kudos to the team who put in so much hard work. |

| olegc Fri 10/5/2001 6:46p | Thanks for the coverage. Extremely thorough and complete. I had a great time myself but felt it was not worth all of the $$ for the time alloted us. Panel, one ride through and a chance at merchandise. I think the RSP cpuld be augmented slightly so that everyone gets a shot at first choice merchandise, then run the list again for second choice, etc. However, as I said, ride and panel experience were first rate. |

| tooncity Fri 10/5/2001 8:13p | Thanks Laughingplace for a very detailed and informative report.
The overlay of the ride looks GREAT. I feel Disney has really tried it's best to deliver on this one. But I really believe the Merchandise portion of these event(s) are really to frustrating to deal with. It seems like every one of these special events come with a tidal wave of angry customers. Most of the complaints I see posted and hear from people who attend them are about how the merchandise is distributed. When I hear about so many people being upset that they couldn't get what they wanted because of confusion on what line to stand in, damaged merchandise that is limited and can't be replace, misinformation; then I switch over to ebay and I see well-over a 100 auctions with exclusive event Merchandise up for auction the day after the event, I get a lot cynical about the profiteers getting all they want and the real fans having to pay premium prices on the secondary market. I'm one guy who will never attend one of these things. But I will go on the ride and I'm sure I'll like it, I just wish the real fans can get what they want and Disney can make it so everybody has a chance to receive the same merchandise or walk away with some degree of satisfaction. To give Disney a couple hundred bucks and be disappointed is really no good for getting patrons for the next special event.

| Kimber Fri 10/5/2001 8:50p | Hey -
dlport - Thanks - the "work" was a lot of fun - but - as to my use of flash in the attraction - I was among the last of the attendees riding as I went to shoot the dinner event and then ran over to pick-up my secondary round merchandise selection - I had learned - the hard way - that the lines at the ride would be shorter and the lines for merchandise pick-up would be longer the later I waited to do either.
There were only about three riders on the attraction with me and they were 8 doom buggies in front of me - well out of flash range - so my shooting didn't interfere with their enjoyment of the ride. I have a real "thing" about flashers in attractions :) and try to be as courteous as I can. Hopefully there will be a Press Ride soon so that more images of the attraction can be posted for all to enjoy.
/cs - Thanks - it helps to have a tape recorder as my memory isn't what it used to be. I truly enjoyed your review :).
olegc - I think that the RSP is as fair as it's possible to get given the limitations of edition size fluctuation and a database of guests which can be more than 10-times the available merchandise. I believe that everyone does get a shot at their first choice merchandise. I can't think of another system that doesn't also have the same inherent numerical drawbacks.
Terry - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You - It's always good to see you where ever we are :).
toon city - as to the bad reviews - most - but not all - of them are from the merchandisers and profiteers you mention - those who didn't get the items to post on e-Bay and pay for their event in that way - the LE "stained glass" Mansion pin LE 150 that sold for $50 has already sold on the secondary market for more than $500 - that alone is plenty of incentive to keep the profiteers coming - it's the very nature of the Disneyana collectables marketplace that the secondary market drives the primary production of items. If there weren't collectors there wouldn't be collectables.
Please take the bad reviews with a grain of salt and remember that people can be disappointed for different reasons - and if you truly enjoy the attraction and don't get caught-up in the LE stuff - go to an event for the friends and the fun.
If there were NO merchandise at all - I'd still have gone to the event and have had the same GREAT time. I think if you walked away from the Mansion event feeling that you had been disappointed in the level of the entertainment or the quality of the attraction - then you attended for reasons beyond fun. I went for the fun - and had plenty of it :)
Thanks,
Kim

So Kim what is your opinion on "FLASHERS" in attractions??
Inquiring minds need to know ! :) |

| Kimber Fri 10/5/2001 9:32p | :) Dave - get your mind out of the gutter - there isn't enough room down here for both of us :)
Seriously - while there isn't much I haven't seen :) on a Disney ride - it still bugs me when a flash goes off. I do my best to be mindful of those on the ride with me :) and keep my flash off - digital is cool in that the contrast range is large enough to handle just about any light level.
