| fzzybddy Fri 8/26/2011 3:26p | Any news on the return of GLOWFEST 2012 now that the inferior elecTRONica is winding further down? |

| TP2000 Fri 8/26/2011 8:37p | It actually hasn't been announced, or even hinted at, what will replace elecTRONica in 2012.
However, a couple weeks ago Al Lutz had a Miceage update where he said DCA's street party theme for 2012 would be called "Mad Tea Party", and he gave some details of what it would be like. |

It has a much more serious tone (though not nearly as serious as the first few weeks it was open, when they didn't even play recognizable music), and is much more structured with its various activitiy stations (dance area, Laserman, movie preview, arcade, light cycle video game, bar lounge). Part of what was so cool about GF was how it felt like it could be a blockparty in your neighborhood, just one with very high production values. ElecTRONica feels like a corporate event to push the film, and the 'fun' factor suffers as a result. While it's still plenty fun, it just feels like the soul behind it isn't there.

I do, but that's a different discussion for a different thread. While he certainly had trouble in his later years, his focus was still on creating new content and making the most of that. Iger, however, just focuses on sucking any and all life out of existing conetne, without creating much real new stuff. Instead of 10-15 studio releases per year, of varying budgets and expectations, we now get 5-7 that all have to do gangbusters in the box office and with merchandise to make financial sense. The parks have (for the most part) stopped adding anything of substance, and just full life out of Disney's other properties. Despite the issues that Eisner had, at least he was trying to give us what we wanted. Iger just wants to give us branding. |

However the world of TRON is not exactly a friendly place so it does give ElecTRONica a different vibe than Glow Fest (which I also liked expect for the tacky infrastructure during the day). I really thought Alice in Wonderland was officially announced but I can't find anything so I guess not. However it could make a great theme for a street party. If they do it I'm really hoping they use the old Millionaire building for a 'Wonderland' walk through with photo ops. I think that could be amazing and something they should have done when the movie came out. I only hope that if they continue with the street parties in the future they devise a way to hide the ugly light riggings and infrastructure during the day as it really makes the Hollywood area look 'messy'. (At the very least keep the stuff off of Hollywood Blvd. during the daytime and relegate everything to the back lot area.) |

Neither of these were filled with drunks. |

I really like Electronica and will be sad to see it go. |
