Bob... once again, a GREAT article :)

Can you possibly clarify the use of the baseball bats to keep the cars from bumping? Were they put in between the cars to protect the bumpers, or just for show? Am I missing something here? :)

Thanks again for your extremely interesing column. I could listen to your stories ALL DAY. Formerly being from MI and having a family history of Ford and GM Tech Center workers, I can appreciate how 'political' these companies were when it came to getting things done... and then the UAW on top of that, it's a wonder that Ford ever got cars off the line!

Thanks,

Bob, I read all of your articles and love them all! Especially the monorail tractors! But this one was awesome, as always!

imtigger2: Bob asked me to pass on the following answer:

---

Yes, the baseball bats were inserted between car bumpers on curves to keep the tail lights and body work from getting bashed. They were in use for weeks.

Thanks Doobie, thanks Bob!

That's we call "duct-tape" engineering. Sounds like you had to do a LOT of that in the early days.

Another great article by Mr. Gurr. And, as is often the case, more great arguments for NOT going with the lowest bidder. Let's hope this hard-learned lesson won't be forgotten by today's management at Disney...
