Once again, nice job by Doobie and the rest of the LP staff....

But, the Photo of the sign at the top of the article, which is a photo of a Poster that was placed on the "green" rehab walls brings back memories of the Disneyland of the past (10 years ago), where are the touches today????

What is on the Critter Country walls, The BTMR walls, the IASW walls (did anyone see the photos of the Laser Printed "Hard Hat Area" signs placed on the door in the public area near the start of the parade route....) ?????

Or the Cosmic Waves walls that just came down.... First off, the signs placed on the walls talked about Tomorrowland Transit Authority enhancements in progress.... Then, the walls themsleves, thousands of people a day had a chance to see both sides of the walls (mainly thos who went to Innoventions), the back sides of the walls were a mismash of different colors, and looked tacky. If you look at the construction photos of the Rivers of America in the article, the walls look painted on the back side in the same basic green. Why did Disney do this in the early 90's, having the sign shop making appropriate signs that feature some of the art skills that made Disney famous, caring about the show to make sure that the walls which would be visable to guests, had been painted on both sides????

The Cosmic Waves work looked like something I would find in a Six Flags Park.

Today, there was an article talking about the "removal" of the Locked Keys assistance by Disneyworld personnel that was given at no additinal charge. I presume there were legal reasons and liability issues that had Disney remove the service.... but that article, plus the memo that talked about the decision to have Disney NOT pay WDW employees while they walk to and from work while onstage, and how to tell guests (of course, in a nice way) "I can't help you, go find a employee on duty!"

What is happening to the show, the thing that people have called the "Disney Difference"... Is it that the other parks are catching up, or is it the fact that Disney is cutting back too much, and "dumbing down" to their competitors levels?????

What a great collection of pictures! I really enjoyed looking at them. I remember going to Disneyland when I was younger and not understanding why the river was drained...

I've got some pictures on my website of Fantasmic! They're formatted as desktop images.

Make sure you check out the other images on my site! There are around 200 desktop pictures!

What a great views of the construction of Fantasmic! And the shots of the show really brought it back for me. Thanks, Doobie!

My sister went to Disneyland about a week before my big trip, and gushed on and on about how I *had* to see Fantasmic while there! I didn't know much about it, and thought it couldn't live up to her hype. I put it on my "to do" list, though. Then when I saw the crowds assembling hours before the show, I decided to skip it. My time at DL was too precious to spend waiting around for a show. On the second night I was there I had to pass through the area (bemoaning the crowd the whole way) and just happened to be in a great spot when the show started. Wow! Made me wish I had camped out for it the night before! Fantasmic rocks!

Ironically, Fantasmic! was also the subject of my only real disappointment with Disneyland during that 4-day stay. I wanted to get the dessert buffet tickets for the show for one night. I checked into it ahead of time, and stood in line twice to try to get them. No success. And the cast members, while sincerely sympathetic, I think, were not especially helpful. A really guest-unfriendly system of ticket distribution.

I hope this is not off-topic... The construction photos made me wonder, How deep is the River? Does it have a cement floor and natural sides?

What memories! I was an annual passholder then and still today. I remember the construction. Watching in some horror as bulldozers flattened trees on Tom Sawyers Island. The signs on the construction walls I rememner had the tag line "Be there when the River Ignites".
I remember the sight of the poor Mark Twain sitting in the mud near Critter Country and from the train could see construction of what appeared to be a neww drydock in the northeast corner of the river. I speculated to myself that this was ment as a way of having a place for both Columbia and the Mark to have suitable drydock spaces during future rehabs. As work progressed I could figure out how they would be able to position either boat in there. Eventually it became clear this was something else, but what?
Having watched the construction so carefully I knew I just had to be there for opening day. Went by myself and had one of the best experiences I have ever had at the park, except maybe the 60 hour party for Star Tours opening.
After seeing people already lined up as early as 3pm for the 9pm show I decieded that going for the 11:45 pm show would be best. I also decieded that if I came in on the train just as the 10:30 show was ending I would have my best chance to see it up close.
While waiting at Main Stret station I remember seeing a huge plume of smoke, light and noise from Frontierland and actually thought something had gone terribly wrong. Hmmm heard that one before, haven't we!
I boarded the train and got there just as the show was winding up and managed to make my way up front and center of the middle screen. Then during the show Stood Up at the railing (yes, for a very short time you could do that in front) and watched the wonders unfold. Aside from giving people behind a better view, sitting dowm in front might be almost a safety issue. When the Columbia fired off the cannon I nearly jumped over the railing.
The sound of the cheers at the end was defeaning and know the problem was getting out. Think it took about a half hour for the assembled multitude to get out, absolute body to body. A few weeks later while visiting I remarked to a cast member about opening day, he said he was there and they felt that the area could hold 10,000 people but they estimated 17,000 were in the area.
My other great Fantasmic expierince came the last time I saw the show which was at Disney/MGM at WDW. The crowd was in the mood for a release. A chant of USA! USA! USA! was going on and increasing. Then came the voice over "Welcome to Fantasmic". The crowd went ballistic. The date, September 12, 2001.
