So very true. This last week I was over there (pin shop much, em?) and it was just sad. What a waste.

Yes, the current shape of tomorrowland is just terrible and it's not just the lack of attractions. The current feeling is that there is NO hope for tomorrow.... I loved the old: "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow."

This is where Michael Eisner has no place as CEO, as he simply will rationalize the cost away of properly fixing this up, while he continues to laugh to the bank with his yearly bonuses.

The "New Tomorrowland" became Yesterdayland fast. The current one will not last for 30 years. It does seem eerily dead and empty and it feels like a "Theme Park Graveyard" for old Disney rides and rides that are almost ready to die.

What happened, Mr. Eisner?

It seems rather odd that just a meager 6 years ago, Tomorrowland 'reopened' with this:

- Innoventions
- Rocket Rods
- 'Honey, I shrunk the audience'
- Astro Orbitor

And to a lesser extent:

- Redd Rocket's Pizza Port
- Cosmic Waves
- Observatron
- vegetable & fruit planters

Well, Observatron, Cosmic Waves, and Rocket Rods have all shuttered.

Half the mechanisms on Astro Orbitor no longer function.

Innoventions is one of the biggest jokes that these guys in WED ever designed.

Honey, I shrunk the audience, being a film attraction has become very old fast.

So, out of what they built for 1998, what is worth seeing today in 2004?

Then there are the other aging attractions - Star Tours running on 17 years without a single makeover since it's 1987 debut.

Last time I checked out the arcade next to Space Mountain, the upstairs remains abandoned. Looks pretty bad with ceiling panels missing, with the rest a pretty filthy layer of dirt to them. And the arcade on the first floor looks like it has not changed since it opened in 1977. That is pretty pathetic - never a renovation to remove the faded orange floor tiles - or a remodel to the walls.

What was a radio station taking up space in Tomorrowland anyway? Looks awfully odd in place of the former Launching Pad food stand.

Then the biggest eyesore of them all: The empty Submarine Voyage lagoon. I remember big promises from the president of Disneyland at the time when the new 1998 Tomorrowland opened, that by 2003, a new ride would take it's place.

I think they reneged big time!

Buzz Lightyear solves only one problem. They got many more to go. I'm afraid they do the same as DCA - Frankenstien the place, one item at time. Unlike the Tomorrowland of 1967, there's no uniformity with a mish-mesh of different architectural designs and different color schemes.

Here here.

I would have preffered another 3 years of nothingness to a rush job on Buzz. In that time they could have sat back and looked 15 years into the future and they would have seen where they wanted to go with the theme. Instead were going to get a cartoon character here, a 70's space flight over there, and Movie attraction here based on a late 80's film and one over there based on non disney characters from the late 70's. Dont forget the one stop shop for the technology of today, the empty span of water, and the 50's freeways. Whats going on?

Well, it's not much, but at least Matt Ouimet got Space Mountain back to it's original glorious white. With that horrible greenish-brown color, I'm surprised no one ever climbed up Space Mountain and hung a giant banner that said "Wash Me".

But a coat of paint is a long way from getting Tomorrowland back to what it once was or could be.

The worst part is that this problem is leaking out to other parts of the parks: Main Street USA @ WDW. There once was a time when you would find the Main Street Cinema, Main Street Magic Shop, and many other 'themed' experiences on Main Street. Now all you can find is retail space for the same sub-par merchandise you can find all over the park (not to mention at the local Wal-Mart). There are more shops than attractions, when previously the difference was for every attraction there was one shop.

All that wonderful space @ WDW and they make us pay $50+ per person a day to go to a mall with a few attractions, and too much construction.

If only they could only take the money we give them and spend it on what we feel we are spending it on it would be far more worth it!

A column that truly expresses what many of us feel about TL. I go there regularly 'cause I like to eat at R/Rs but I just ignore the blight and get back out as quickly as possible.
