Our family loved the first movie and its clever subtlely delivered lines and moments. PD2 has so few of these, feels artifical, forced and isn't true to any of the original characters or the books. For instance, Lilly who fought for animal rights in the first film was instantly supportive of Mia's arranged marriage?? RIGHT! Instead this film was used as a vehicle to promote the careers of Disney Channel stars who were completely out of place in Genovia. Why else have Raven sing with Ms. Andrews when Anne Hathoway has a gorgeous voice (as proven in Ella Enchanted)? Shame on Disney for taking a delightful film, series of books and using its sequel to push their list of up and coming Disney Channel stars. The original supporting cast was ignored or just served as window dressing. Not a fate worthy of such a wonderful ensamble. Story was completely predictable but still enjoyable to watch. Just had much great expectations for this film, since it could have been wonderful instead of just good or okay. At least it was totally family friendly and earned the G rating, which most Disney animated films don't even try for anymore.

My daughter and I went to see the movie yesterday, our kind of film. Yes it was corny, but the characters are so loveable--the first film left you wanting to know what happens next for them. This film satisfied, and I would actually like to see more of the adventures of "Queen" Mia. Did notice that your review said three years had past since her first adventure and Mia was returning as an 18 year old to Genovia. Actually, Mia mentions in her opening Diary narration that 5 years have passed, and she is returning to Genovia after graduating from college. (Lilly is there with her before she returns to go to grad school.)

I was referring to the dates of the film's themselves. The first "Princess Diaries" came out in summer 2001.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
