David, this was an awesome article. I usually think that of pretty much all your articles but this one was just great. You really envoked the good parts of DCA yet still made us aware that Walt would have been horrified at the park. Good job!

I do agree with your general theory of this park. While I enjoy spending SOME time there, hitting the few highlights like Soarin' and the Animation lobby (get that - the LOBBY is an attraction for me!), it really holds no comparison to any of the other Disney parks, both in SoCal and in Florida. I'll still manage to have a good time, but I never plan on spending a lot of time there.

I have very similar feelings to David. There are little things that I like very much and still distinguish it from a Paramounts Great America (I'm a Nor Cal guy) but over all it is still disappointing. That said, I would rather drive to Anaheim and go to DCA that go to either of the two parks in Nor Cal!

I am always amazed that my kids (ages 13 and 16) LOVE this park. I am sure as this park continues to evolve and grow, they will love this park even more and they will hold it near and dear to their hearts much like I do Disneyland.

<<I must say that I found it tasty. The chicken strips were meaty, the fries crisp (reminding me of In N Out)>>

Which In N Out is he going to? My fry experiences have always turned out rather soggy.

I like your description of the boardwalk area as "Kurt Russell Movie" type of place. I think that's why I don't mind the area; I can give my kids the beach-boardwalk experience but not have to deal with the yuck that you find elsewhere. I actually like DCA...it's just that we're usually done with our "visit" in 3-4 hours (incl lunch). I, too, hope that it continues to evolve. I really enjoy having lunch at the trattoria and I LOVE meeting my friends at the Cove Bar at sunset!

I've always enjoied DCA for the areas that weren't totally kid over-run, like the patio at the Golden Vine and some of the other landscaped areas that were great for people watching. My partner and I celebrated an anniversary at Avalon Cove, and I really hope the memorabilia and sets from Hollywood & Dine find their way to another place where they can be appreciated.

Thanks for an enjoyable read. I usually only go to DCA every 4th or 5th visit. But when I had 10 and 13 yr old grandaughters visit, we spent 50% of our time there and I, mostly, enjoyed it if only because they enjoyed it so much.

Finally - someone who is seeing DCA the way I do. I love DCA, for some of the same reasons that Dave pointed out. It's not Disneyland, its a nice add-on to a 3 day weekend. My husband and I like to relax there, especially when we've been fighting the "Adventureland Bottleneck" it's a wonderful reprieve. Thanks for the nice article.
